Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 12 review - Zeenat Aman and Neetu Kapoor bring a decadent blend of laughter and legacy

Zeenat Aman and Neetu Kapoor, two stalwarts of Bollywood's Golden Age, bring us a taste of that era through a mix of nostalgic memories and humorous anecdotes.

When the promo dropped for the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, it was peak nostalgia and excitement to witness the two timeless icons gracing the couch once again after almost two decades.

It was a sure-shot thing to get Zeenat Aman back on the show, given her Instagram debut, which has taken the social media platform by storm. On the other hand, Neetu Kapoor has made an appearance twice on the talk show, both with her family. It's indeed a delight and also comforting to see the veteran actor getting out of the shadow of her husband and late actor Rishi Kapoor, whom she kept on addressing as her only best friend while also mentioning his possessive side.

Netizens, as well as Farah Khan, said in a video that Karan Johar should let his guests talk. It is unclear whether the episode was shot before Karan Johar received the feedback, as there was a sense of relief when Zeenat and Neetu began conversing and reminiscing about the numerous films they had worked on together. The fun was watching KJo's reaction, as that was one of his questions during the Koffee quiz.

However, the golden era of Bollywood was definitely discussed as two "ageing" young ladies reminisced about their younger days while also constantly mentioning that they were losing their memories. But that did not stop them from sharing a lot of juicy stuff, including Zeenat having the "body" to die for back in the 1970s, when fitness was not a part of an actor's regime as it is now. Or also making heads turn by opting for the unconventional path of being the modern Indian woman, or like Neetu mentions today's woman 50 years back. 

Karan Johar, being Karan Johar, did even try to juice out gossip and address rumours from back in the day. With a lot of "no comments," the actors maintained the dignity that they have had for so many years now. However, both Zeenat and Neetu discussed and shared their relationships with contemporaries like Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Rekha, and others. Zeenat also addressed the so-called rivalry with Parveen Babi, which was once again a delight to hear. Knowing that bygones are bygones, there is no point in talking about stuff that has no relevance now. 

Although Zeenat has also been a sufferer on her personal front, like when she talked two decades ago about her kids, she maintained that they still inspire her, and they urged her to join the world of Instagram and share her stories. 

As expected, Zeenat was the one who shone mostly with her stoic silence. She patiently waited for her turn to speak without interruption while Karan or Neetu shared their sides. She brought back the patience that was lacking in the show.

However, Neetu was equally impressive. She did not deny what people have been hearing over the years about Rishi Kapoor. She spoke about the late actor's possessive side and being a strict partner, as well as not being friends with his kids, at length. Despite the exterior personality that the actor had throughout his film journey, Neetu still spoke about good memories, like the one year in New York where they spent during his treatment for cancer. It also brought a sense of newfound freedom for her to pursue what she had put on hold for 45 years of her life in order to be with Rishi.

The trip down memory lane was quite a soothing ride. Although there were many anecdotes shared, we know that controversies need not be addressed after 50 years, despite KJo provoking in his own way. The silence by Zeenat spoke 1000 words, and that was actually the entertaining part overall. 

A fantastic cocktail of vintage elements, drama, glitz, and mystery was concocted in the episode. It was like a warm cup of memories, full of stories, jokes, and just the right amount of mystery.
