Westeros is now preparing for the big war. The family is pitched against each other, and the entire realm has to participate in the civil war, choosing their sides. The way everything has shaped up in House of the Dragon Season 2 is very crucial for the Dance of the Dragons we are about to witness in the coming seasons. This season has been mostly about Rhaenyra and her helplessness as she is on an island with limited reach and boundaries to her decisions. Her half-brothers have taken over the throne promised to her. She now has to raise an army of men and dragons because they have Vhagar, who can eat the little dragons for breakfast. So an average dragon is as useful as a mode of transport and nothing more unless they are as brave as Meleys to give Vhagar wounds and not just spit inconsequential fire on her. A lot is at stake as there are three parties in three different locations preparing for the big war.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 came in at a time just before the bugles for the war were to be blown. Rhaenyra has some hope as Addam of Hull has been chosen by Seasmoke as the rider, and this is the first time a bastard has been chosen by a dragon. This means that bastards can be brought in to try if they can ride dragons. In no time, we see the small folks of King's Landing being summoned to Dragonstone at their will, and all this is happening without Aemond or his very small council knowing anything about it. The seventh episode was clearly an eye-opener where the highborns are no longer the epitome but it is clearly about blood, even if it is running in the veins of a bastard.

So here are the highlights of the seventh episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 as the show now moves to the finale with episode 8. Read on to learn everything you should know about the same.

Army of the Bastards

House of the Dragon has been more in metaphors than what meets the eye. The fact that the studio has aced the visualization is a given, but the writing that is so intriguing and layered is much more interesting. The grown-up Rhaenyra, who now looks back at her younger days when she did all the rebellious things, is a woman who is now dissecting her life decisions. When a bastard sits on a dragon, Jaehaerys is clearly not happy because he now knows the secret of his birth and why his hair does not match that of his family. But for Rhaenyra, this also means that all the taunts she has heard and everything that people have said behind her back are about to be so inconsequential. Because nothing anymore weighs higher if you are a “Pure Targaryen or Velaryon.” A bastard is as rightful a claimant to a dragon as a highborn.

Vermithor & Silverwing Got a Match

Rhaenyra raises an army of bastards who are put to the test if the dragons accept them. There is so much drama in this scene, and this has to be the most excitingly staged scene in terms of the grandeur of the visuals. Vhagar was the biggest until now, but the intimidating scales that Vermithor walks around with are scary. Silverwing is rogue and adrenaline-pumped because she can fly in enemy territory without a single doubt and an adolescent rider. The way they chose their riders is iconic in the world of Westeros. Hugh (whom we need to know more about) screams at Vermithor, who is impressed by a man being courageous in front of his fire. Ulf, who so far was only claiming to be of the same lineage as Aegon II, has finally proven it. We are yet to know their stories.

What Is Alicent Up To?

The makers of House of the Dragon Season 2 need to explore Alicent much more than they have. Here is a mother who did everything for her sons, the good, the bad, and even the ugly. But now one is almost a vegetable, grilled in dragon fire, and the other on the throne, kicking her out of the council, she has no allies to run to. She is pitched against a woman who was once her best friend, and even that door is closed now. She takes a retreat (amid the war, wow, privilege) and maybe is looking back at what she has done, the mess she has created. But then nothing is this simple in this world, and we won't be shocked if she just randomly goes hunting for some ally or her father, Otto Hightower.

Daemon Meets Viserys

From a critical point of view, we are too much into Daemon's visions at Harrenhal plot device at this point. They have failed to make sense in the grander scheme because they are as random as they can be, and we cannot see their relevance in any way. Viserys comes in his scarred form (like he was just a few days before death) to meet Daemon, whom he tells how he never wanted the crown. The King Consort has just killed the heir of the Blackwoods because our Lady Mormont equivalent, Oscar Tully, decided to do some house cleaning. These visions are either induced by Alys Rivers, or there is some prophecy. Because she even said he dies here, maybe she is plotting it for someone. We never know.

Aemond Meets Fear for the First Time

Just like Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom was not on our bingo cards, witnessing Aemond being scared of a view while he is on Vhagar’s back was not in our imagination even remotely. What did he see that even Vhagar, the largest dragon in the world, couldn't defeat? A frame that probably is the most brutally iconic in the history of House of the Dragon Season 2. We see Rhaenyra standing on the boundary of Dragonstone with Vermithor, Silverwing, and Syrax, all charged enough to attack Vhagar, and there is no way Vhagar could survive three dragons, with one almost of her size. The scene is wildly iconic, and we are now pumped up to know what happens next.
