This year has been full of Cinematic highs and lows, with authentic biopics, and true story adaptations (like Oppenheimer and Society of the Snow) ruling the roost at the Academy Awards, while being dominated by women-led, social satires, or musical reimaginings of current, thought-provoking issues (like Barbie and The Color Purple). The upcoming year promises to be no different, with an even more alluring, diverse portfolio of films. Here are the 10 Hollywood movies to look out for in 2024.

Deadpool 3

(Releasing on July 26, 2024)

Ryan Reynold may have had a rough start with the superhero genre, but he has come into being with Deadpool in 2016. The fourth-wall-breaking, foul-mouthed but hilarious anti-hero made us all want to burst out in red suits, wielding katanas. Although, few would wish for his never-ending cancer. After the huge success of Deadpool and its 2018 sequel, ranked among the highest grossing R-rated movies of all time, Deadpool 3 is coming back in the summer of 2024, with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in tow.

Joker- Folie à Deux

(Releasing on October 4, 2024)

Joker: Folie à Deux has gained plenty of buzz, mainly due to its worthy prequel’s massive reception. Joker grabbed 11 Oscar nominations, earning Joaquin Phoenix his Best Actor victory, and had been the first R-rated movie to gross more than $1 billion dollars internationally. Joker: Folie à Deux will chiefly focus on the toxic yet passionate relationship between Arthur Fleck’s Joker and Lady Gaga-essayed Harley Quinn, with hints from director Todd Phillips indicating the introduction of comic books into Joaquin Phoenix’s universe, and not the other, conventional way around.

Argylle

(Releasing on February 2, 2024)

Directed by the Matthew Vaughn, creator cum showrunner of the Kingsman franchise, Argylle is an upcoming spy thriller that is razor sharp and a mise en abyme. It focuses on the story of a private author, Elly, who has written a series of bestselling espionage novels, based on the fictional secret agent Argylle and his missions around the world. But when reality starts mirroring fiction, Elly finds herself in its crosshairs. Starring the iconic likes of Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, and Dua Lipa, among others, the film also features an important character in Alfie the cat.

Mean Girls

(Releasing on January 12, 2024)

Though the film’s plotline is unchanged from its two predecessors, successfully tried-and-tested musical stage production and original movie, all titled Mean Girls, there is a modern spark to it. Unlike the previous adaptations, Mean Girls 2024 will feature a proper approach to social media and its effect on the Plastics and their high school tyranny. With Tina Fey returning to guide and reprising her role, Mean Girls, a musical movie adaptation, stands a promising chance of clicking among its fans.

Saw XI

(Releasing on September 27, 2024)

Though no official plot details are given, franchise producer Oren Koules revealed that Saw XI’s chronological position in the Jigsaw-verse lies between Saw X and Saw II. If that is so, then Saw XI will serve as a sequel to Saw X (which takes place right after Saw, the first part). Since Saw X ended with Cecilia still alive, while Jigsaw and Amanda remained in Mexico, at large, scouring for revenge and moralistic murders, it is highly probably that Saw XI will continue from that point, though Tobin Bell’s return is yet unconfirmed.

Dune 2

(Releasing on March 1, 2024)

Directed by the renowned Denis Villeneuve, Dune 2 will transport us back to Arrakis and follow the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen, while being hellbent on a path of vengeance against those responsible for the decimation of his family. However, he will be tested and forced to choose between the love of his life and the fate of the Universe, his decision can make or break a terrible future. With such grave decisions lying ahead, Paul must navigate the chessboard of Arrakis and interplanetary politics in order to survive, and perhaps end up happy.

Kung Fu Panda 4

(Releasing on March 8, 2024)

Kung Fu Panda 4 will see Jack Black’s Po train a new Dragon Warrior, Zhen the vixen, voiced by Awkwafina, as the former attempts to be the suitable leader of the Valley of Peace, while finding some enlightenment along the way. The fourth part of the popular franchise will also see Viola Davis join in as the film’s main villain, a shape-shifting chameleon. Everything Everywhere All at Once star Ke Huye Quan will also be joining the project as Han.

Nosferatu

(Releasing on Christmas, 2024)

Written and directed by Robert Eggers, Nosferatu is based on an “unauthorized and unofficial” adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, set in the 1800s and follows the traditional story of a man named Thomas Hutter who is sent to the castle of Count Orlok, regarding purchase of a property, coincidentally right next to Hutter’s residence. However, during his stay Count Orlok chances upon the former’s wife Ellen’s photo, and becomes infatuated by her, especially her “neckline”. The struggle to defeat the epitome of night terrors is what Nosferatu is all about, starring the acting powerhouses Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgard, and Lilly-Rose Depp in the leading roles.

Arthur the King

(Releasing on March 22, 2024)

Arthur the King promises to be the feel-good doggy film of the year, with its focus on the bond a stray dog develops with an adventure racer Michael, in exchange of a few meatballs and some kind words. As a result, the dog not only saves Michael and his entire team’s lives, but also guides them to victory in a race that equivocates in importance with life and death. The odds are even tougher when the team discovers during the race that their beloved furry Arthur the King is a lot sicker than anticipated, despite being tough as nails.

IF

(Releasing on May 14, 2024)

This upcoming John Krasinski venture, previously known as Imaginary Friends, tells the story of a young girl who can visually see imaginary friends, in furry and adorable forms. And that is where the fun begins, because she can see every imaginary friend left behind or forgotten by a human as well.
