WPL 2024: Complete squads of all 5 teams post auction including, retained players

The five teams — Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals — successfully acquired the players they needed for the upcoming season.

The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 mini-auction concluded with 30 players selected out of the 165 that went under the hammer on December 9 in Mumbai. The five teams — Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals — successfully acquired the players they needed for the upcoming season.

Gujarat Giants stood out with a remarkable shopping spree, securing a total of 10 players to strengthen their squad. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore, aiming for improvement after finishing at the bottom in 2022, made significant moves by adding seven talented players to their roster. UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians each acquired five players, while Delhi Capitals secured three players.

The standout purchases of the day included Annabel Sutherland, who fetched a whopping 2 Crores for Delhi Capitals, and uncapped Indian player Kashvee Gautam, who commanded the same price for Gujarat Giants. Additionally, Veda Krishnamurthy found a new team in GG, and defending champions Mumbai Indians made a significant investment in Shabnim Ismail to enhance their bowling department.

The upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) second edition is anticipated to take place between February 22 and March 17. However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah mentioned that this time, the tournament will be conducted in a single state to address logistical challenges.
