Mohammed Shami in red-hot form

The whole of India might be rallying behind Virat Kohli for his momentous 50th century but one cannot deny the fact it's Mohammed Shami, at the moment, who is delivering all the thrills. The Indian pacer is yet to drop the ball, so to speak, this World Cup 2023 and though he has played only three games thus far, he has been nothing short of breathtaking in each of them. If the brutal spell to Ben Stokes the other night wasn't enough, Shami has wielded his skills yet again to rip through the Sri Lankans at Mumbai's Wankhede.

Mohammed Shami picked up his second fifer in three games and gave away only 18 runs in return. At one point, his figures read 4 wickets for a single run which goes to suggest just how fiery he has been with the ball in hand. Shami has 14 wickets to his name already and is looking at the top of his game.

While his antics with the ball caused all the damage in the Lankan batting unit, another antic of us directed towards the dressing room, too, has caught the attention of the dressing room. Mohammed Shami, a quiet and reserved personality on most days, was at his animated best on Thursday and as soon as he picked up his fifth wicket for the night, he would rub the ball on his head in a circular motion, gesturing away at someone in the dressing room with a huge grin on his face.

At first glance, one might have mistaken that gesture to signify a turban or something of that nature but it took a small clarification from teammate Shubman Gill to understand that Shami was actually referring to team India bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey! Why? you may ask and Gill reveals that Shami chose to do a 'circular rub' gesture on his head because Paras Mhambrey, turns out, has no hair on his head! And all the "charades" that took place on the ground might have been meant to catch his attention. Well, trust Mohammed Shami to entertain us in more than one way.

Coming back to the game, India got past Kusal Mendis' team with a massive 302-run victory and has now sealed its spot in the semis. It's been an absolute dream run for Rohit Sharma and Co. thus far with every single box, as it were, being checked and fans would hope that there is no major blip along the way to that trophy. India would be wary of a few teams like Australia and South Africa, though, who seem to be peaking at the right time in World Cup 2023.
