Cristiano rival fans taunted him by chanting the name of his long-time on-field rival, Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo's team, Al Nassr, lost to Al-Ittihad by a score of 0-1 on March 9 in a Saudi Professional League match at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Their top-tier player could not help his side escape the narrow defeat which also caused them to fall from the first spot in the league table. They now have 46 points after 20 games, which puts them in second place in the 16-team league.
To add salt to Ronaldo's wounds, rival fans taunted him by chanting the name of his long-time on-field rival, Lionel Messi.
On social media, numerous videos show supporters yelling "Messi, Messi" at Ronaldo. Among the various videos, fans took a special interest in one that shows Ronaldo kicking a water bottle in anger after his team's subpar performance and the insulting chants thrown at him.
Talking about Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had surprised everyone by moving to Saudi Arabia in December of the previous year.
With the Saudi club, he inked a hefty two-and-a-half-year deal that is estimated to be worth 200 million euros annually.
Messi meanwhile is still competing in Europe for the French team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Messi and his squad were unfortunately eliminated from the UEFA Champions League this week, making it a forgettable week for them.
In the Round of 16 matches, the Ligue 1 leaders were defeated over two legs by the Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.
