Rahmanullah Gurbaz wins hearts with Diwali gesture

Afghanistan's World Cup 2023 run might have come to an end but the team's players continue to win our hearts in new ways. A video featuring Rahmanullah Gurbaz distributing money and gifts among the poor and homeless on the streets of Ahmedabad (around 3 am) has now gone viral and endeared all of the social media over the gesture of pure kindness.

What's more charming is the fact that the Afghanistan opening batsman doesn't seem to be surrounded by a PR team or anyone else to publicize his benevolence. Instead, the now-viral video is likely to have been shot by a bystander who caught Rahmanullah Gurbaz doing his best to reciprocate all the love he and his team received from the Indian crowds. Needless to say, netizens are touched by his showering of kindness and social media is currently brimming with joy over this.

Of course, Gurbaz and the rest of the Afghanistan team have been stationed in Ahmedabad for a couple of days because of their game against South Africa. Having put on a superb show over the last couple of weeks, Afghanistan was quite close to making it to the semi-finals had they not lost to Australia a few days ago in a mighty close contest. In the same vein, a big win against South Africa would have given a small window of opportunity to sneak into the semis. However, they could not get over the finish line on both occasions despite their valiant efforts.

The tenacious bunch of players sprung several surprises throughout the World Cup by beating marquee teams like Pakistan and England, proving that they are ready to assume a bigger role on the global stage. With Jonathan Trott, the head coach, leading the way and India's own Ajay Jadeja mentoring them during World Cup 2023, one got to see a different edge to the team that has always boasted supreme talents like Rashid Khan, Ibrahim Zadran, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rahmanullah Gurbaz himself. It would be fascinating to see how Afghanistan cricket fares from this point onwards.
