All eyes are currently on the Paris Olympics and how far champions like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, etc. will go in the singles and doubles categories. The tennis matches are being held at Roland Garros, the home of the French Open, and will end on August 4 with the men’s singles match for the gold medal.

Then, only two weeks later, all the action will head to Flushing Meadows, for the US Open Tennis Championship, the final Grand Slam of the tennis calendar year and the second of the two major hard-court tournaments. On August 19, the action kicks off with the qualifying matches, which will go on till August 22, with four rounds each.

The main draw begins on August 26 with the men’s and women’s Round 1 matches. The doubles Round 1 matches begin on August 27. The women’s singles final will be on September 7 and the men’s final on September 8. In India, both finals will play out on September 8 in keeping with the time zone difference. Sony Sports is the telecast partner in India, with all matches to be available for live stream on SonyLIV.

Novak Djokovic, who is currently representing Serbia at the Olympics is the defending champion; he’s won the US Open a grand total of 4 times so far and played in the final 10 times since 2007. Carlos Alcaraz, who has won both the French Open and Wimbledon this year, will miss out on a calendar Grand Slam, having lost in the quarter-final at the Australian Open, but will look at reclaiming the trophy he lost last year in Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz went into the tournament as the defending champion, and was ousted in the semi-final by Daniil Medvedev, who, in turn, folded to Djokovic in the final. In the women’s singles segment, Coco Gauff is the defending champion.

World No.1 Iga Swiatek, who has won the tournament in 2022, but has since only been able to dominate on the clay surface of Roland Garros, is expected to put on a big fight, as also Aryna Sabalenka, the two-time Australian Open champion, who has a better track record on hard court.
