US Open 2024: Novak Djokovic is gunning for a fifth US Open title and taking his tally of Major title wins to 25
It’s not even been three months since Novak Djokovic had surgery on his knee following a meniscus tear, a time during which he’s made a stunning recovery to play a Wimbledon final, which he unfortunately lost to Carlos Alcaraz, and then an Olympics final, yet again against the young Spaniard, to clinch a gold medal. The 37-year-old is now all set to begin his latest US Open campaign, and winning it a fifth time, to take his career total of Grand Slam Major wins to 25.
US Open 2024: When and where to watch final Grand Slam of the year
The No. 2 seed Djokovic kicks off the action with an opener against unseeded qualifier Radu Albot. This is the first encounter between the duo. Djokovic has not played since his Olympics win, and has had some injury scare during a practice session. Even then, he’s expected to proceed to the next round without much of a hassle. Djokovic’s match against Albot will begin at the main Arthur Ashe Stadium at 5.45 am on August 27. This is an evening session match under lights. Fans in India can catch all the action live on Sony Sports and SonyLIV.
A win at the US Open, for the defending champion, will take Djokovic to an all-time highest Grand Slam Major winner, surpassing the record set by Margaret Court. It will also be the first time since Roger Federer’s back-to-back victories from 2004 to 2008 that a men’s singles champion mounts a successful title defence.
US Open 2024: Men’s singles draw; order of play of round 1
The US Open round 1 matches are currently underway in the men’s and women’s singles category. Given the time zone difference, the morning session matches begin in India only at 8.30 pm, while the evening session begins at 4.30 am the following day. India’s Sumit Nagal’s match against Tallon Griekspoor is at 1 am on August 27.
