A low full toss just outside off-stump tempted de Kock, who artfully lofted the ball into the air. However, it found a safe pair of hands in Nasum Ahmed stationed near the backward point boundary. Nasum grasped the catch about a yard or so inside the boundary rope, employing a reverse-cup technique.

While he fell short of a 200-run milestone in his 150th ODI, fans both at the Mumbai stadium and online lauded his impressive 174 runs from 140 balls, featuring 15 fours and 7 sixes.

De Kock had earlier secured his third century in just five games during World Cup 2023, marking his 20th ODI century. His achievement was met with thunderous applause from the crowd, accompanied by a warm hug from his partner, Heinrich Klaasen.

Quinton de Kock's remarkable consistency in India was evident, converting all of his five 50-plus scores into centuries during this tournament. As of writing this article, South Africa had completed 47 overs, accumulating 337 runs for the loss of four wickets.
