Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu faltered on her third attempt, when she lost in the quarterfinals.
Late on August 1, there was collective disappointment across the country, as one of India’s medal hopes was dashed when PV Sindhu crashed out in the badminton quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics. Playing China’s He Bing Jiao, whom Sindhu had beaten four years ago in the Tokyo semi-final, the Indian star, lost in straight sets.
Following the loss, Sindhu took to social media with a long post about the disappointment of returning home without a medal. Terming the loss one of the hardest of her career, she wrote that she will need time to come to terms with it.

Sindhu then went on to explain that she’d been riddled with injuries in the last two years, which kept her away from the game for long periods. Despite not being at the top of her game, when the opportunity to represent the country came up, it was not something she could let slide.
The badminton star also sought to set the record straight on her future course. The 29-year-old was bullish that she is far from done with the game and asserted that she will be back, albeit after a break that she reckons her mind and body need. She will play the game she loves, but the journey ahead will be carefully evaluated.
Meanwhile, all hope is not lost for India in badminton, what with Lakshya Sen booking a spot in the semi-final and inching closer to a medal. The quarter-final win over China's Chou Chen, meant that Lakshya becomes the first Indian in an Olympic men's singles semi-final. He will meet the winner of the Viktor Axelsen and Loh Kean Yew semi-final.
