Team India, the Olympic bronze medallists from the Tokyo Games, were hoping for a medal of a different metal, but lost in the semi-final against Germany
Four years ago, the Indian hockey team ended the country’s 41-year medal drought in the sport, when they defeated Germany in the third-place play-off and secured a bronze medal. At the Paris Olympics, India was hoping to do even better and go home with a medal of a different colour and metal, when they were pitted against Germany yet again in the semi-final match. But alas, that was not be, with Germany trouncing India 3-2 and advancing to the final, where they will meet Netherlands. The final match is at 10.30 pm on August 8.
India may not return home empty-handed, as the team has a chance for third place yet again. This time around they play Spain for a chance of a bronze. The bronze medal match is being held on August 8 at 5.30 pm, which you can watch live on Sports Network 18 or JioCinema, if you are in India. JioCinema has been making Olympics coverage available for free streaming.
The fact that India has beaten Spain at the Olympics earlier and that several of the bronze-medal winning team members are still representing the country, gives them and fans hopes that yet another bronze medal will be added to the kitty.
