Distinguished cricketers such as MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Ricky Ponting, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Eoin Morgan, and Arjuna Ranatunga will be bestowed with special blazers in Ahmedabad.
As the highly anticipated final of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 approaches, where the host nation India will face five-time ODI champions Australia in Ahmedabad, the venue is also gearing up to honour the previous World Cup-winning captains.
In a special initiative organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all the former World Cup-winning captains will be recognized and presented with a special blazer at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The felicitation ceremony is scheduled to take place after the conclusion of the first innings in the final.
Distinguished cricketers such as MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Ricky Ponting, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Eoin Morgan, and Arjuna Ranatunga will be bestowed with special blazers in Ahmedabad. However, Imran Khan of Pakistan will not be in attendance, as he continues to spend his time in prison.
The presentation ceremony is designed to include short clips showcasing the captains guiding their respective sides to World Cup glory. Additionally, a brief question-answer session with a BCCI/Star anchor will add an engaging element to the event.
About the Final:
Both teams have solidified their positions in the final, boasting remarkable winning streaks. India stands as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, securing 10 consecutive victories, while Australia has impressively notched up eight consecutive wins.
India will be entering their fourth ODI World Cup final, having previously clinched the trophy twice (1983, 2011). On the other hand, Australia is set to participate in a record-extending eighth ODI World Cup final, with five previous title triumphs (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015).
