The triumphant Australian cricket squad returned home following an outstanding performance in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 held in India. Pat Cummins' team convincingly defeated the host nation, India, in the final to secure their 6th ODI World Cup title.

While the host nation fans were expecting their favourites to win this game and had surely kept all the fireworks handy for the big win, things did not go as planned.

As the Australian side won the trophy and reached back home on Wednesday morning, they were greeted with the absence of a grand reception.

As images and videos of the same circulated on social media platforms, Indian fans questioned why the Australian cricketers didn't receive the enthusiastic welcome they deserved.

Upon returning to Australia, the captain reflected on the remarkable achievement, expressing that the thrill of becoming ODI world champions has not fully set in.

"I think we'll be smiling for a fair while. We are still buzzing. Every half an hour so, you kind of remember that you just won a World Cup and get excited all over again," Cummins said in the press.

"You only get one chance every four years and especially playing somewhere like India, it's hard."

"To be pitted up against the rest of the world and come away with a medal, it doesn't get any better than that. Adding to that an away Ashes series, a World Test Championship, we couldn't have planned for much better," he further said.

While some Australian team members have headed back home, a few have chosen to stay in India for the upcoming 5-match T20I series starting on November 23.
