The target of 161 was already below par, and the KKR batters made sure LSG had no chance of defending it. KKR's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was seen cheering and encouraging the crowd to keep screaming as the team was heading towards victory.
Philip Salt went on to smash 89 off 47 balls, including 14 fours and 3 maximums. His partner Shreyas Iyer also scored 38 off 38 balls after Sunil Narine (6 off 6) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (7 off 6) fell early. Only Mohsin Khan managed to take two wickets, while the others were dispatched to the boundaries.
Earlier, Quinton de Kock (10 off 8) fell early, while his opening partner KL Rahul managed to score 39 off 27. It was due to Nicholas Pooran's 45 off 32 that the score even crossed 150+, which at one point looked impossible.
The other LSG batters, Deepak Hooda (8 off 10), Ayush Badoni (29 off 27), Marcus Stoinis (10 off 5), Krunal Pandya (7 off 8), and Arshad Khan (5 off 4), could not contribute much despite some getting starts. Mitchell Starc picked three wickets, while Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Andre Russell took one wicket each.
