After posting 199 runs on the board in Match 17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Gujarat Titans (GT) began their defence of the score against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on a positive note, taking wickets at regular intervals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, one player who stood tall amid the batting collapse was Shashank Singh who scored 61 off 29 and helped his side win by 3 wickets.

Who is Shashank Singh, you ask? He is the same player who confused Punjab Kings during the IPL 2024 Auction. Now, he has gone on to smash his maiden IPL half-century and even help his side win.
The IPL auction 2024 garnered attention in Dubai after Punjab Kings were the only team to raise their paddle when the auctioneer put Shashank's name up for bid. PBKS secured the player for a base price of INR 20 lakh. However, there was confusion as the co-owner asked the organizers to reverse their bid, mistaking the player for someone else. Auctioneer Mallika Sagar denied the reversal, and the bid stood.

For GT, Noor Ahmad picked up two wickets, while all the other bowlers, including Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, and Darshan Nalkande, took one wicket each.

Earlier in the innings, GT finished their innings at 199 in 20 overs after losing 4 wickets. Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 89, which currently stands as the highest individual score in a game for IPL 2024. His opening partner Wriddhiman Saha (11) was dismissed early, but Kane Williamson (26), Sai Sudharsan (33), and Rahul Tewatia (23*) all played crucial cameos. For PBKS, Kagiso Rabada picked up two wickets, conceding 44 runs, while Harpreet Brar and Harshal Patel took one wicket each.
