It's D-day, and the more than two-month-long Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin on March 22, with the first clash between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday. However, before the exciting game, with fans eager to see top players MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli back playing cricket, this year's opening ceremony will feature Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, singer Sonu Nigam, along with musical maestro AR Rahman. Not just that, DJ Axwell, a member of the Swedish House Mafia, will also enthral the fans ahead of the first match.

The opening ceremony will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and is expected to start at 6:30 PM IST, preceding the IPL 2024 opener between defending champions CSK and RCB, which will get underway at 8 PM IST. The opening ceremony will be telecasted on the Star Sports Network, viewers can watch it for free on the Jio Cinema app.

About the IPL 2024:

The IPL organizers for this season have broken the trend of pitting defending champions against runners-up and instead opted to kick off the 17th edition with a highly anticipated clash between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Not only that, this season will witness the return of several players, with Rishabh Pant rejoining professional cricket for the first time since December 2022 - after his major accident, Virat Kohli's first assignment since the birth of his son Akaay, while Hardik Pandya is set to take on the leadership role for Mumbai Indians (MI), a franchise he parted ways with a couple of seasons ago.

Meanwhile, Dhoni is making his comeback to the sport after his last appearance in the IPL 2023 campaign, but he has stepped down as captain of CSK and handed it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
