The last-over drama saw boundaries being hit, but wickets also fell. In the end, it was the host city Gujarat Titans (GT) winning their first game under new captain Shubman Gill by 6 runs. Mumbai Indians (MI) continue to lose their season opener games, this time under new skipper Hardik Pandya. This marks GT's third win against Mumbai Indians at this venue.

In the last over, with Hardik at the crease, it looked like he could silence the crowd as he smashed a six and a four on the first two balls from Umesh Yadav. However, the GT pacer's experience came into play as he dismissed Pandya and followed it up with the wicket of Piyush Chawla, who had just walked in and attempted to attack. Jasprit Bumrah came in, managing only one run, which was all GT needed to seal the deal.

For GT, bowlers Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson, and Mohit Sharma picked up two wickets each, while Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore got one to his name. For MI, barring Ishan Kishan at the start, Rohit Sharma (43), Naman Dhir (20), Dewald Brevis (46), and Tilak Varma (25) contributed, while Hardik Pandya scored 11 off 4 balls.
