IPL 2024 - CSK win season opener but Chepauk crowd screams 'We want Dhoni'

As the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium was reaching its end, fans were still seen chanting one name and eagerly anticipating his appearance at the crease - MS Dhoni.

The Chepauk crowd were eager to witness MS Dhoni bat and smash the ball out of the park and the chants of anticipation filled the stadium with many even taking it to social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter). However, it was not possible as Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja helped CSK secure victory by 6 wickets during the season opener of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In the clash, CSK continued to maintain their winning streak at home against RCB. The Royal Challengers saw Cameron Green pick two wickets, while Karn Sharma and Yash Dayal claimed one each.

However, CSK showcased a strong batting performance while coming to chase 174 runs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) providing a solid start, followed by contributions from Ajinkya Rahane (27), Daryl Mitchell (22), Shivam Dube (34*), and Ravindra Jadeja (25*).

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, RCB faced the wrath of Mustafizur Rahman, who claimed four wickets. Deepak Chahar also secured one wicket, while one was a run-out by MSD. Although Faf du Plessis (35) started well, RCB lost Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell for ducks in one over.

Virat Kohli (21) and Cameron Green (18) attempted to stabilize the innings, but they also departed early. Later, Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik stitched a solid 95-run partnership to help RCB reach a total of 173 runs.
