While it was known that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hadn't won a game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium since 2008, this year felt different, especially after their women's team lifted the Women's Premier League (WPL) title just days earlier. However, in the season opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), RCB faltered and lost the game by 6 wickets.

CSK gave their fans a win upon returning to their fortress. However, for RCB fans, it was heart-break, but not an unusual sight to see their favourite team lose. Soon enough, fans took to social media platforms, including X (formerly known as Twitter), to trend 'Vintage RCB is RCBing' - stating that this was typical of their team's performance.

As for the clash, the packed Chepauk crowd witnessed Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja help CSK secure victory. The home side showcased a strong batting performance while chasing 174 runs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) providing a solid start, followed by contributions from Ajinkya Rahane (27), Daryl Mitchell (22), Shivam Dube (34*), and Ravindra Jadeja (25*). For the Royal Challengers, Cameron Green picked up two wickets, while Karn Sharma and Yash Dayal claimed one each.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, RCB's wickets fell early as Mustafizur Rahman claimed four wickets, while Deepak Chahar also secured one wicket, and one was a run-out by MS Dhoni. Although Faf du Plessis (35) started well, RCB lost Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell for ducks in one over. Virat Kohli (21) and Cameron Green (18) attempted to stabilize the innings, but they also departed early. Later, Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik stitched a solid 95-run partnership to help RCB reach a total of 173 runs.
