Shubman Gill demonstrated his prowess with a notable century in India's practice match, a crucial intra-squad fixture in preparation for the upcoming games. The match unfolded at SuperSport Park in Pretoria, where the Indian squad was divided into two teams for the warm-up encounter.

However, the team faced setbacks before the games commenced, with Ishan Kishan having asked to be released citing unspecified personal reasons and KS Bharat stepping in as his replacement. Additionally, Ruturaj Gaikwad, unable to recover in time from an injury, was also excluded from the lineup.

Compounding the challenges, Virat Kohli has temporarily returned to India due to an undisclosed family emergency. Reports suggest a plan for his return to the team in South Africa ahead of the first Test match.

Regarding the Proteas, Test batsman Dean Elgar has officially declared today that he will be retiring from international cricket after the conclusion of the Betway Test series against India.
