Rohit Sharma in action against New Zealand

Team India reached the semi-finals of World Cup 2023 on the back of some super impressive starts offered by Rohit Sharma, and one hoped that the elegant batsman would deliver once again against New Zealand. And he did just as ordered as he never looked bogged down by the occasion or the quality of the opposition to lend another superb start for his team in the crunch game.

Striking at a rate close to 200, Rohit Sharma was a sight for sore eyes as he eased through to a score of 47 (from 29 balls) before succumbing to a slower ball from Tim Southee. It didn't help either that Kane Williamson, positioned at mid-off, ran back and took a splendid catch to dismiss his counterpart and silence the jubilant Wankhede crowd.

But that doesn't mean that the Indian skipper's knock has gone unnoticed. Social media users were quick to duly recognise the impact of Rohit's knock and soon enough tags like 'selfless' began to trend on social media.

"Before Sehwag retired, India got #Selfless Rohit Sharma ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ" wrote one user to echo the sentiments of several others. It wouldn't be wrong to say that the Mumbai-born batsman has looked like a different league altogether this whole World Cup 2023, constantly putting his team above his individual accomplishments.

"This World Cup will be remembered for Rohit Sharma's dominance in powerplay overs. Captain leading from front.." wrote another user to emphasize how much his onslaught in the powerplay has impacted Team India.

In the same vein, the hashtag 'vadapav' has begun trending on social media and, of course, this comes as a term of endearment. Rohit Sharma, the Mumbaikar, has often been linked to the city's iconic snack and his knock has got everyone 'drooling' all over again.

Speaking of the India vs New Zealand game, Rohit Sharma's knock received great support from Shubman Gill who scored a trademark 79 from only 65 balls before retiring hurt. Fans, though, would hope to see him returning to crease for his maiden hundred of the tournament.
