Skipper Rohit Sharma, not content with his century in the previous game, was on a quest for another triple-digit milestone. However, his pursuit fell short when he was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi for 86 runs.

Pakistan made a strategic bowling switch that proved effective, leaving Rohit Sharma with a dejected expression. He was utterly foxed by an off-cutter, a slower delivery outside the off-stump, which compelled him to reach for a drive. Losing control of the bat handle, he provided an easy catch to mid-wicket. The ball even struck the bat's toe-end. As a result, he fell just 14 runs short of achieving back-to-back World Cup centuries. His splendid innings included 6 fours and as many maximums.

Earlier, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Pakistan could only muster 191 runs in 42.5 overs, a significant deviation from the anticipated 305.

The Indian bowling contingent, including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, showcased their prowess, with each claiming two wickets.
