India's journey to the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 final was never in doubt, despite a few hiccups in the fielding department. The formidable Indian bowling lineup, led by Mohammed Shami's stellar performance, dismantled New Zealand for a mere 70 runs in the 1st semi-final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Shami's extraordinary 7-wicket haul illuminated the stadium, complemented by contributions from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, who each took one wicket.

Although Shami dismissed openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra early, Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell built a formidable 100+ run partnership. However, India's lacklustre fielding provided some respite for the Kiwi batters. Shami, determined to turn the tide, broke the partnership, reaching the milestone of 50 wickets in World Cups and securing an additional wicket, all within a single over.

Entering the attack in the 32nd over, Shami claimed the crucial wicket of skipper Kane Williamson (69 runs). He followed it up by dismissing Tom Latham for a duck, and Kuldeep Yadav joined the party by sending Mark Chapman back for 2 runs. Daryl Mitchell valiantly fought with a score of 134 runs, but Shami eventually removed him too. Mitchell Santner (9), Tim Southee (9), and Lockie Ferguson (6) were merely at the crease for attendance as India asserted their dominance.

This victory marked India's tenth consecutive win, and they now eagerly await the winner between South Africa and Australia to determine their opponent in the final.
