One English player, Ollie Pope, changed the face of the 1st Test as India went on to lose a winning game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The batter was dropped at 110 by Axar Patel, then at 186 by KL Rahul as Pope just missed his double ton, being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for 196.

The lone batter's score in the 2nd innings was almost the same as the lead India had taken in the first innings - 190. Debutant Tom Hartley, who was hit for runs in the first innings, also made a fantastic comeback as he got a 7-wicket haul in the 2nd innings to clinch victory for his side.

On Day 4, while the Men in Blue finally stopped the English onslaught at 420, and then came to bat, it seemed like none of the batters wanted to defend and play, knowing a whole day was still left. Skipper Rohit Sharma (39) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (15) got runs, but Shubman Gill's bad form continued as he got out for a duck.

KL Rahul managed only 22, while Axar Patel (17), Shreyas Iyer (13), and Ravindra Jadeja (2) could not score big. Keeper Srikar Bharat (28) and Ravichandran Ashwin (28) tried to add some runs, while tailenders Mohammed Siraj (12) and Jasprit Bumrah (6*) added a few but fell short, losing the 1st Test by 28 runs.

The English side got a good start in the 2nd innings with Zak Crawley (31) and Ben Duckett (47) going strong, followed by Pope and Ben Foakes (34). Joe Root (2), Jonny Bairstow (10), and skipper Ben Stokes (6) could not contribute much. However, it was a Pope show all along, while he lost wickets at the other end.

In the 1st innings, India's batting showcase began with Yashasvi Jaiswal's impressive performance. The partnership between KL Rahul (86) and Shreyas Iyer (35) had further strengthened India's position, with additional contributions from Jadeja and Srikar Bharat posing significant challenges for the English side.

On Day 3, India commenced cautiously but eventually found themselves all-out for 436 runs. England's Joe Root impressed with a four-wicket haul, limiting India's lead to 190 runs.

On Day 1, before India's innings, England elected to bat after winning the toss, managing to post a total of 246 runs before being dismissed. Despite a strong start from England's skipper, Ben Stokes, who scored a half-century, his innings was halted at 70 by Jasprit Bumrah. India's bowling attack, led by R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja with three wickets each, along with Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah's contributions of two wickets each, effectively disrupted the visitors' batting lineup.
