Shubman Gill's dismissal in WTC 2023 Final triggers controversy

The biggest controversy in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final took place at London's Oval Cricket Ground when Shubman Gill was given OUT during India's second innings. Coming in to chase the mammoth 444 runs on Day 4, Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green was seen taking the stunner, but the question remains, was the decision to dismiss Gill, though, didn't seem to be conclusive to the naked eye, a fair decision.

It quickly sparked a controversy with Indian fans at the ground even booing Green and his teammates. On social media, netizens started trending the words 'Not Out', 'Cheater' and more. Even the commentators and cricket experts were not sure if the decision taken was right as the benefit of the doubt goes in favour of the batsman.

As for Gill, he too got into the debate and surprised all with his tweet. The young opener posted a closeup TV screen grab of the catch with magnifying glass emojis.

While the majority backed Gill and tweeted in his favour consoling the star batter, there were a few who told him to accept the decision and move on.

As for the clash, at Stumps on Day 4, the equation was Australia need 7 wickets and India need 280 runs to win the WTC final.

After losing Gill, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane formed a good partnership of 70+ runs to keep India's hopes alive despite the Aussies being the favourites to win.
