The next encounter between the two teams will be on Sunday (September 24) at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
After restricting Australia to a total of 276, India launched an impressive chase in the 1st ODI at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad laid a solid foundation with a commanding 142-run partnership. Subsequently, stand-in captain KL Rahul, supported by Suryakumar Yadav, further solidified India's position, leading them to a 5-wicket victory.
Having won the toss and opting to field, Mohammed Shami was the standout performer, claiming five wickets to dismiss the Australians for 276. Australia had previously gained momentum through a splendid half-century from David Warner, part of a 94-run partnership with Steve Smith for the second wicket before India managed to regain control.
Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami provided India with crucial breakthroughs during the game.
Marnus Labuschagne's dismissal was rather peculiar, occurring through a stumping off Ravichandran Ashwin, followed by a brief rain interruption. Cameron Green and Josh Inglis appeared to stabilize Australia's innings after the resumption, but a mix-up led to the run-out of the former.
Marcus Stoinis and Inglis then launched a counterattack, accumulating 62 runs off just 43 balls for the sixth wicket before Shami dismissed Stoinis. In the penultimate over of the Australian innings, Shami completed his five-wicket haul by taking two more wickets.

Pat Cummins scored 21 runs in nine balls to conclude Australia's innings, with Adam Zampa getting run out off the final delivery, leaving them all out for 276 in 50 overs.
India initiated their response with a strong start, as Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad both registered half-centuries, propelling India to 142 in no time. However, Australia managed a timely fightback, with Adam Zampa dismissing both set batsmen and Shreyas Iyer falling victim to an unfortunate run-out.
Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul's 34-run partnership stabilized India's chase before Pat Cummins dismissed the young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.
With 89 runs required from 99 balls, the responsibility fell on Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav to guide India to victory.
Following his 50, SKY took the aerial route and lost his wicket, while Rahul, who also reached his half-century, guided India to victory in partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.
