Despite the early departure of Shubman Gill, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli provided a strong start in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. However, the momentum took a hit as Rohit lost his wicket, attempting a forceful shot to a flighted delivery angling away.

The sliced shot soared in the air, with Travis Head making an excellent diving catch inches from the ground. The dismissal energized the Australian team, evident in the enthusiastic reactions of bowler Glenn Maxwell and captain Pat Cummins. Rohit, having already accumulated 10 runs in the over, departed for 47 (31), featuring 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Shortly after, Shreyas Iyer, who came in place of Rohit, had started with a boundary on his second ball and also fell for the same score. Facing a length ball just outside off, Iyer hung his bat out, resulting in a faint outside edge through to the wicketkeeper. With two rapid wickets, Australia gained momentum in the contest.

The swift fall of two wickets hushed the crowd in Ahmedabad. The responsibility now lies on Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to guide India to a substantial total.
