Following their eventful tour against South Africa, the Indian team is now back on home soil, preparing to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series. The first T20I is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 11, in Mohali.

A major highlight of the series is the return of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli to the squad. Both players are making their comeback to the shortest format of the game after a gap of 14-month hiatus. This also will mark their first appearance in white-ball cricket since the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023 in November.

However, the Men in Blue will miss players like Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who are sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Ishan Kishan, who has been in good form recently, has also not been included, but Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson are named as the designated wicketkeepers for India in this series.

On the Afghan side, after their commendable performance in the recent ODI World Cup, the team will enter the format that best suits them. Star spinner Rashid Khan, though part of the squad, may not feature prominently in the initial matches. The team is back to full strength after sorting out contractual issues with players such as Mujeeb Zadran, Naveen-Ul Haq, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Opener Ibrahim Zadran will be leading the Afghan side and will be partnered with the in-form keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz to open the batting.
