In the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2024 India faced off against Ireland, and the young batter Musheer Khan showcased an outstanding performance by scoring an impressive 118 runs at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Unfortunately, his remarkable run came to an end due to a run-out in the 47.4th over of the 50-over game.

Musheer called for a second run after drilling the ball to long-on, but a powerful flat throw from the deep reached the keeper's end, resulting in a run-out. Despite a valiant dive, Musheer couldn't save his wicket, concluding his impactful innings that included 9 fours and 4 sixes.

Thanks to Musheer's century and a solid partnership with captain Uday Saharan (75), the Boys in Blue set the highest score of 301 runs, losing 7 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Aravelly Avanish and Sachin Dhas played crucial cameos to take India past the 300-run mark.

Who is Musheer Khan?

For those unfamiliar, Musheer Khan is the younger sibling of established Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan. Similar to Musheer, Sarfaraz made an early entry into the cricket scene, representing India in two U19 World Cups (2014 and 2016).

Despite going unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction, Musheer, at just 18 years old, has already played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.

Notably, he recently scored a quick 127 off 47 balls and took 2/53 in the final of a quadrangular series for India A U19s. In the U19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he emerged as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 438 runs and also led the charts in wickets with 22 scalps.

Having already shared the field with prominent players like Suryakumar Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Musheer Khan finds ample motivation to aspire to represent the senior Indian team in the future.

As for the U19 World Cup clash, Ireland's Oliver Riley, with three wickets to his name, emerged as the standout bowler for the Irish side. Pacer John McNally secured a couple of wickets, but he faced an intervention from the umpire who removed him from the attack after delivering two waist-high full tosses in the 43rd over.
