French Open 2024: Meet the top seeds in the men’s singles at Roland Garros
Defending champion Novak Djokovic is still No.1, but the Serbian players form has been far from exemplary this season.

The top 5 seeds in the Men's Singles at Roland Garros
The clay court Grand Slam, the French Open, is currently underway, with the qualifier matches on at Roland Garros. Round 1 of the Men’s and Women’s singles will begin on May 26, with the matches set to stream live on Sony LIV in India. While the match draws are yet to be determined, the tournament will have the who’s who of international tennis in action. Here’s a look at the top seeds in Roland Garros and their track record at the French Open.
No. 1 Novak Djokovic
Defending champion Novak Djokovic has been playing the French Open since 2006, making it to the quarter-final back then. He made his first final six years later in 2012, but lost to Rafael Nadal. He was finalist in 2014 and 2015 too, but just couldn’t make it to the finish line. It was in 2016 that he finally won the clay court Slam, beating Andy Murray. He repeated the feat again in 2021 against Stefanos Tstitsipas and then in 2023 against Casper Rudd.
No.2 Jannik Sinner
Since turning pro in 2018, Sinner did not play the 2019 French Open, reaching a career high of the round of 16 (quarter final) in 2020. He’s had two 4th round and a 2nd round defeat since then, but is thought to be among the front-runners to win the tournament.
No.3 Carlos Alcaraz
From being out in the qualifier round in 2020, Carlos Alcaraz has been making advancements year-on-year, with a career best semi-final outing in 2023. He lost to Novak Djokovic in a four-set match.
No. 4 Alexander Zverev
Zverev has been playing in Roland Garros since 2015, and has gotten better ever year, although in the last three he’s stumbled in the round of 4. In 2021 he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas; in 2022 he retired hurt during his match against Rafael Nadal and in 2023, he lost to Casper Rudd. With Djokovic and Nadal not in the best form, the Italian Open champ will fancy a chance at bettering his track record in France.
No. 5 Daniil Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev’s French Open track record is not great, failing to proceed beyond the first round most times. His career best is the 2021 quarter-final, when he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
