World No.1 and defending French Open champion Iga Swiatek’s Round 4 match lasted all of 40 minutes, when she demolished Anastasia Popatova 6-0 6-0. On June 4, it seemed that she was ready for a repeat, as she took on defending Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova in their quarter-final clash, racing to take the first set 6-0 in less than 30 minutes. What Popatova could not, Vondrousova did, keeping Swiatek on court for 1 hour and 2 minutes and winning at least 2 games along the way, as the latter closed out the match with a second set score 6-2.

Iga Swiatek will now play Coco Gauff in the semi-final on June 6, which will be their 12th head-to-head encounter. Swiatek has a stunning 10:1 record over Gauff. At the French Open, for instance, Swiatek defeated Gauff in the 2022 final and the 2023 quarter-final. This track record, obviously, makes Swiatek the favourite to win this encounter. The World No.1 is, anyway, expected to defend her title and make it a fourth win at Roland Garros. If she wins, the 23-year-old will be the fourth player ever, after Chris Evert, Steffi Graff and Justine Henin to have four French Open Grand Slam wins.

Meanwhile, on June 5, Jasmine Paolini will play Elena Rybakina, while Aryna Sabalenka takes on Mirra Andreeva in the remaining two quarter-finals. The matches are being held at the Court Philippe Chatrier, with the likely start time at 2.30 pm (IST) for the first match. These two matches will be followed by the remaining Round of 8 in the men’s singles category, including one featuring defending champion Novak Djokovic.
