'Fake, baseless. Never discussed' - Preity Zinta expresses anger on viral 'Rohit Sharma as PBKS skipper' news

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise has experienced four instances of losing closely contested games, all of which ended on the last ball or over. Amidst these last-over thrillers, they also suffered the setback of losing their skipper and opener Shikhar Dhawan, who had to sit out due to injury.

However, even before their game against the Mumbai Indians (MI), news circulated about how she wanted Rohit Sharma to become PBKS skipper. The team's co-owner, Preity Zinta, took to her official X (formerly known as Twitter) to address a statement attributed to her. Expressing her anger over the 'fake' news, Zinta stated that she never discussed the MI great in any of her interviews.
"#Fakenews! All these articles are completely fake & baseless. I hold Rohit Sharma in very high regard & am a big fan of his, but I have NEVER DISCUSSED him in any interview nor made this STATEMENT! I also have a lot of respect for Shikhar Dhawan & his current injury makes these articles appear in very poor taste," wrote Zinta.
"These articles are a perfect example of how misinformation is picked up without any verification & circulated online. I humbly request all Media to refrain from circulating this & embarrassing all concerned parties. All I want to say is that we have a great team currently & our only focus is to win games & make the most out of #IPL2024 Thank you. @PunjabKingsIPL," Zinta added.

PBKS vs MI clash:
The Kings, after being reduced to 49/5 in the 193-run chase, saw their hopes reignited thanks to a brilliant batting effort from Ashutosh Sharma (61) and Shashank Singh (41). However, following Ashutosh's dismissal in the 18th over, it was all but over for them as they faced a mere 9-run defeat.
