F1 Spanish Grand Prix: When and where to watch the 10th race of the season

Defending F1 champion Max Verstappen missed out narrowly on a pole position start, but is unlikely to fret. He’s still at the front of the grid, along with pole winner Lando Norris and if his last race at the Canadian Grand Prix is anything to go by, Verstappen doesn’t need to be in pole position to emerge winner. Moreover, this is a circuit that he’s won thrice (2016, 2022, 2023).

During qualifying on June 22, it seemed that Verstappen would get his 8th pole position race start, but a few seconds later, Lando blazed past the finish line with an even better lap time. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will be behind them on race day, June 23. Lando, who won the Miami Grand Prix, despite only making it as fourth fastest in qualifying, will be looking at another victory and 6th podium finish. This is his second career pole position in F1.

Up next, the drivers and teams will head to Austria (June 28-30), followed by Great Britain (July 5-7). They then get just shy of a fortnight’s breather before Hungary (July 19-21). Making up the rest of the top 10 qualifiers are Monaco Grand Prix winner Charles Leclerc at 5, followed by Australian GP winner Carlos Sainz (6), Pierre Gasly, Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon and Oscar Piastri.

With 6 wins in 9 races this season, Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship with 194 points to his credit. Charles Leclerc is second with 138 points, while Lando is a close third with 131 points. The constructors’ championship is led by Red Bull Racing at 301 points, but Ferrari is not far off with 252 points.
