Lando Norris registered his third victory of the 2024 Formula 1 racing season, when he took the checkered flag at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore. Max Verstappen, who began the race in the front row along with Norris, finished second, while Oscar Piastri gained a couple of places and came in third. Together, Norris and Piastri got McLaren to extend its lead over Red Bull Racing. McLaren’s got 516 points, against Red Bull’s 475, while Ferrari is in third position at 441.

In the Drivers’ Championship, Verstappen continues to be in the lead with 331 points, although the gap between him and Norris is down to 52 points only. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (245) and Piastri (237) are not far behind, and with 7 races to go this season, the championship is anyone’s game. Although Verstappen managed yet another podium finish, his dry spell, as far as victories go, continues.

This is Verstappen’s worst season so far since he became the F1 Drivers Champion in 2021, a title he’s continued to hold since. In 2021, he won 10 of the 22 races, in 2022 it went up to 15 of 22 and in 2023 he literally dominated the track with 19 of 22 wins. The 2024 season has 24 races and after 18 rounds, he’s won 7 and managed four 2nd place finishes. The Dutchman may still be able to defend his title, but with Norris and Leclerc gnawing at his ankle, he needs a few more good results for the rest of the year.
