West Indies do not qualify for the 2023 World Cup

In a stunning turn of events, two-time champions West Indies have suffered a major setback by failing to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023, marking the first time in history that they will not be part of the prestigious tournament.

The shocking blow came when Scotland emerged victorious over the West Indies during the Super Six round of the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, shattering their ambitions and dreams.

With such a legendary cricketing nation missing from the World Cup, cricket fans throughout the world are still trying to process this unexpected result.

The side who won the inaugural World Cups in 1975 and 1979 and finished second in 1983 will now have to watch from the sidelines as the cricketing world meets in India later this year.

Due to the Windies' ninth-place finish in the ODI Super League, they were not able to directly qualify for the World Cup. Only the top eight teams received direct entry into the ten-team competition, leaving the West Indies with the difficult task of advancing via the qualifiers.

They were placed in Group A alongside Zimbabwe, Netherlands, USA, and Nepal. They managed to progress to the Super Six stage, however, it was then that things got tough for the side. Windies lost all their three matches played till now in the Super Six - Zimbabwe, the Netherlands and Scotland.

Their qualification for the 2019 ODI World Cup in England was also a close call and they had also failed to progress to the Super 12 stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, having won only one match (against Zimbabwe) and lost two (to Scotland and Ireland) their group stage.
