Shubman Gill departed after scoring 51 in the final ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 league match against the Netherlands.
Team India, having won the toss and elected to bat first in the final group stage match of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, witnessed a rapid start from openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. However, the brisk scoring came to a halt when Gill departed after scoring 51.
Gill attempted a pull shot to guide the ball, making decent contact. Teja Nidamanuru, displaying exceptional skill, took a superb catch with a perfectly timed jump and an overhead grab. He managed to land and maintain his balance just inches in front of the boundary rope, providing the Dutch team with a crucial breakthrough.

Following Gill's dismissal, the crowd erupted in chants of "Kohli, Kohli." Notably, Kohli, as he crossed paths with Gill, gave him a pat on the back. The 'Prince' of Indian cricket had accomplished his role, paving the way for the 'King' to take charge.
This scene also got fans to recall the time Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli shared on the crease together, with many saying, its the "circle of life".
In the current encounter, India had reached a total of 130 runs for the loss of two wickets after 18 overs. Kohli's innings provided some nail-biting moments for the fans, narrowly escaping being caught on two occasions.
After Gill's departure with a score of 51, the Indian captain also faced the same fate with a mistimed shot. Rohit Sharma attempted a pull shot but failed to time it correctly, resulting in a catch comfortably taken by Wesley Barresi at deep mid-wicket.
