Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a challenging encounter against China's Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng in the BWF Malaysia Open 2024 men's doubles final. After winning the first game convincingly with a score of 21-9 in just 13 minutes, the Indian duo encountered strong opposition as the world champions levelled the match by taking the second game 18-21. The contest progressed to a decisive third game which saw them lose 21-17.

The pair had earlier made history by becoming the first Indians, across all disciplines, to reach the final of the Malaysia Open in the Open Era (since 1983).

The match proved to be intense as the Chinese pair, currently holding the world No. 1 ranking, posed a formidable challenge to the Indian pair ranked No. 2 in the world. The Indian duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to navigate a tough contest but lost the game due to silly errors.

In the semi-finals, the Indian side demonstrated their prowess by defeating the Korean duo of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae with a scoreline of 21-18, 22-20 in straight games.

The quarterfinals saw a convincing performance from the Indian duo, as they defeated China's World No. 32 pairing of He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu with a commanding score of 21-11, 21-8.

The dynamic Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been a dominant force in the badminton circuit. They have established themselves as the most successful Indian players and their achievements speak for themselves.

In 2023 alone, they won the Asian Games gold medal, and titles in the Asian Championship, Indonesian Super 1000, Korea Super 500, and Swiss Open Super 300.

Additionally, they also reached the finals of the China Masters Super 750 in November of the same year, showcasing their consistent excellence on the international stage.
