The 10th match of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 carried immense significance for Australia, who had suffered a defeat in their opening game against India. Facing South Africa, the Australian team won the toss and chose to field, but their performance was far from dominant. Australia's fortunes suffered due to lapses in the field, including seven dropped catches. Consequently, South Africa managed to post a total of 311 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

The South African opening duo, Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock, cautiously navigated through the swinging and seaming conditions and capitalized when the conditions became more favorable. They put on a commendable 100-run partnership before Glenn Maxwell finally ended their stand. While Rassie van der Dussen contributed a few runs, it was de Kock who stole the limelight with yet another century.

Later Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen continued with the attack, keeping the scoreboard ticking. In the later stages of the innings, David Miller and Marco Jansen played effective cameo roles, pushing the total beyond the 300-run mark, which Australia had hoped to avoid.

Australia's fielding struggles persisted until the penultimate over when Mitchell Starc juggled a straightforward outfield catch, offering David Miller an unexpected lifeline when he was on 10. A couple of deliveries later, Marcus Stoinis dropped a straightforward catch at cover, granting Marco Jansen a reprieve on 25. Adding insult to injury, David Miller hammered the following delivery for a six over the cow corner.

Following this match in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, all teams will have completed two games each. Presently, New Zealand holds the leading position in the points table, followed by India and Pakistan. Afghanistan finds themselves at the bottom of the table in 10th place, with the Netherlands just above them in 9th place and Sri Lanka occupying the 8th position.
