In a topsy-turvy encounter at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Australia emerged victorious, beating Pakistan by eight wickets on January 6 in the New Year's Test. The Aussies secured the clean sweep with a triumph on Day 4, while Pakistan endured their 17th consecutive Test loss in Australia.

Resuming Day 4 at 68/7, Pakistan was bowled out for 115 in their second innings, with Josh Hazlewood claiming 4/16 and Nathan Lyon taking 3/36. Mohammad Rizwan, who remained unbeaten on 6 overnight, contributed 28 for Pakistan.

Chasing a 130-run target, Australia saw Usman Khawaja dismissed lbw without scoring. However, Marnus Labuschagne's crucial 62 and Steve Smith's presence at the crease ensured Australia's victory. David Warner concluded his remarkable Test career with a dazzling 57-run innings.

Pakistan set the stage with scores of 313 and 115, and Australia responded with 299 and 130-2. This Test followed Australia's earlier victories in the series: a 360-run triumph in Perth and a 79-run win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Reviewing the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table following the Australia vs Pakistan 3rd Test, the Aussies find themselves in the fourth position with 54 points and a points percentage (PCT) of 50. In their eight matches, the Aussies have secured victory in five, suffered two defeats, and one Test ended in a draw.

On the other hand, Pakistan, facing three consecutive Test losses, is currently placed sixth with 22 points and a PCT of 45.83. Their earlier success came in July 2023 when they defeated Sri Lanka in a two-Test series.

As for India, they have 26 points and an impressive points percentage (PCT) of 54.16. In the ongoing WTC cycle, India has participated in four Tests, securing victory in two, facing a defeat in one, and settling for a draw in another. Adding a historic feather to their cap, India recently achieved a significant milestone in Cape Town by becoming the first Asian side to triumph in a Test match at that venue.
