Asian Para Games 2023: India breaks records with 18 gold medals, surpasses 2018 gold count

India at the 2018 Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia had won 15 gold medals, 24 silver and 33 bronze medals taking the total to 72.

On Thursday, India marked a historic achievement with its 18th gold medal in the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar secured India's 18th gold medal in the Mixed Team Compound - Open archery final. With this, India currently stands in eighth place with a total of 82 medals. Meanwhile, China, the host nation, is edging closer to a staggering 400 medals, boasting an impressive 157 golds.

The 16th gold medal for India was earned by Sachin Sarjerao Khilari in the men's F-46 shot put event. Sachin not only clinched the gold but also set a new Games Record by achieving an impressive throw of 16.03m. This exceptional performance propelled India past its previous record for gold medals at the Asian Para Games, surpassing the numbers achieved in 2018.

India at the 2018 Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October 2018 had 15 gold medals, 24 silver and 33 bronze medals taking the total to 72.

In the same shot put event, Rohit Kumar secured a bronze medal for India with a notable throw of 14.56m.

India continued to shine as Sidhartha Babu claimed yet another gold medal in the Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH1. Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav contributed to India's medal tally with a silver in the women's shot put-F34 category.

In earlier events, Zainab Khatun from Meerut and Rajkumari from Delhi, both competing in the 61kg weight category, displayed outstanding performances by securing silver and bronze medals on the second day of competition at the Asian Games.
