Asian Games: BCCI makes changes to Indian squad, Akash Deep replaces injured Shivam Mavi; Pooja Vastrakar joins team

The BCCI has issued an official statement regarding the updated squad for the upcoming 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, scheduled to be held in China. Both the men's and women's teams have encountered injuries, leading to the announcement of their replacements.

In the men's team, Akash Deep has been named as the replacement for Shivam Mavi, who is sidelined due to a back injury, rendering him unavailable for the tournament. The men's cricket competition is set to occur in a T20 format from September 28 to October 8.

Team India (Senior Men) squad for 19th Asian Games: Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Shivam Dube, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Akash Deep.

Standby list of players: Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Sai Sudarsan.

Concurrently, the Women's Selection Committee has designated Pooja Vastrakar as the replacement for Anjali Sarvani. The left-arm pacer, sustained a knee injury, necessitating Sarvani's withdrawal from the event.

The women's cricket competition will unfold in a T20 format from September 19 to September 28, 2023, at Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.
