Afghanistan is showcasing their chasing prowess, securing their third win out of four games, first defeating Pakistan and now Sri Lanka. In a remarkable turn of events, Afghanistan avenged their Asia Cup 2023 loss to Sri Lanka by winning Match 30 of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 with a convincing 7-wicket victory.

This achievement elevates Afghanistan to the fifth position on the points table, rekindling their hopes for a semi-final berth.

Opting to bowl first, Afghan bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to a total of 241 runs in 49.3 overs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Fazalhaq Farooqi impressed with 4 wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed two. Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan contributed with one wicket each.

In their chase, despite the early loss of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck, Afghanistan displayed a solid batting performance led by Ibrahim Zadran (39), Rahmat Shah (62), skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (58*), and Azmatullah Omarzai (73*).

Fans shared their thoughts on social media, with many emphasizing that these victories are no longer considered upsets but rather convincing wins in the tournament.

Sri Lanka, seeking to recover, will face the unbeaten India in their next game on November 2, while Afghanistan will take on the Netherlands on November 3.
