AFC Asian Cup 2023

The AFC Asian Cup is returning to Qatar after five years with the event all set to commence on January 12. A total of nine stadiums will host 51 matches, with the final set to take place on February 10. Qatar, the defending champion and host, is organizing the 18th edition, marking its third time hosting the tournament after successful events in 1988 and 2011.

The 24 participating teams have been divided into six groups, each consisting of four teams. The Indian football team, led by the talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri, finds itself in Group B alongside Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has named a 26-member squad for the AFC Asian Cup 2023. Since the inception of the AFC Asian Cup in 1956, India has qualified for the continental football championship on five occasions: 1964, 1984, 2011, 2019, and 2023.

Indian squad:

Goalkeepers: Amrinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Vishal Kaith

Defenders: Akash Mishra, Lalchungnunga, Mehtab Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Pritam Kotal, Rahul Bheke, Sandesh Jhingan, Subhasish Bose

Midfielders: Anirudh Thapa, Brandon Fernandes, Deepak Tangri, Lalengmawia Ralte, Liston Colaco, Naorem Mahesh Singh, Sahal Abdul Samad, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Udanta Singh

Forwards: Ishan Pandita, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Manvir Singh, Rahul Kannoly Praveen, Sunil Chhetri, Vikram Partap Singh

The Blue Tigers will miss the services of Anwar Ali, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, Ashique Kuruniyan and Rohit Kumar due to injuries.

January 13: Australia vs India - 5:00 PM at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium

January 18: India vs Uzbekistan - 8:00 PM at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium

January 23: Syria vs India - 5:00 PM at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium
