Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 21

Young Sheldon

Story:

The new episode, titled 'White Trash, Holy Rollers and Punching People' shows the Cooper family falling apart with Mary and George's fights growing. While Missy punches a guy at school to stand up for her family, Sheldon is seen distracted and seeking help from his university president, Linda Hagemeyer to fix his family.

Review:

The makers of Young Sheldon seems to have learned it the hard way. The writers have now started drawing parallels between the stories told by Sheldon in both Young Sheldon and parent show The Big Bang Theory, making up for all the discrepancies in the story so far.

The episode begins with Mary having a conversation with Pastor Rob who makes her realise that she would have reacted the same way as others in her Church congregation had this happened in some other family's lives. Mary later gets called to the Pastor Jeff's office with George Sr to discuss Missy punching a guy on the face for humiliating the family. Pastor Jeff asks Mary to take a few days off as even the church congregation has been complaining. When Mary mentions that she understands the situation even better with Pastor Rob's help, it makes George even more furious and he walks away. Later, Pastor Rob visiting Mary at her home. The scene where he knocks the door and asks how she was doing reminds one of the fantasy Mary had earlier. The scene looked quite similar and gets one's hope to see Mary's dream finally coming true but the writers cleverly then turns it into a prayer. The two hold hands and pray that the entire issue gets resolved. The audience could see the spark between the two but before anything could happen, Missy finds them.

Missy has had a great character arc on the show. She is not as dim-witted as everyone thinks her to be. When things go out of control, she is often seen coming forward to support and stand up for her family. She punches a guy at her school who pokes fun at her family and later, hugs and assures Mary that everything is going to be okay when she has a breakdown after a fight with George Sr.

The episode has George Sr and Mary's fight growing, leading to a lot of bickering as Sheldon used to mention in The Big Bang Theory. George walks out of the house when he gets to know that Pastor Rob had visited the house and accuses Mary of developing a relationship with him. The story in intriguing and piques the interest among the viewers, leaving them to wonder if George has gone to Brenda's house as he was missing on the dinner table.

Verdict:

The story is now being aligned with what Sheldon discusses with his friends on The Big Bang Theory. Hence, it is getting even more interesting.
