Twenty-Something describes one of the most important chunks of adulthood
Twenty Something.
Story:
Twenty Something is a tale of a girl, who has just turned 21 and went out to celebrate her birthday as an adult, however, she is terrified to begin this new chapter of her life.
Review:
Let’s put it as simply as we can! Adulthood is crucial as well as difficult. You do not know what to do at your present and how to plan your future. You start paying your bills but at the same time, you need your parents’ help from time to time. While on the other hand, you become your parents’ guardian too. From taking care of their health routines to their mood swings. Adulthood is confusing and overwhelming at the same time. Then comes your social life, while as a teenager you get to hang out mostly with your childhood gang, adulthood introduces a barrage of temporary and a few going-to-be permanent people in your life, while it also lets you keep some of your “bachpan ke dost” if you’re lucky enough!
Twenty-Something describes one of the most important chunks of your adulthood, where you want to grow up but equally want to keep your innocence within yourself and want to appear cool in front of the world as well; confusing, right? Well, yes and that’s why this beautiful effort of the Pixar Studios has shone.
Our just turned 21-year-old protagonist can be seen exploring her horizon and trying to celebrate her newly found adulthood. To witness the special day, her older sister takes her to a nightclub. As soon as she reaches the bar counter her counterparts from inside starts fighting inside about what to have as an adult, while her 21-year-old mind demands an alcoholic beverage, her heart wants to have the dessert that's kept beside her. Most people, especially those who are in their early 20s will relate to the above scenario.
This reminded me of a scene from the 2010 Hindi film Anjaana Anjaani that stars Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor opposite each other. While the hero seems nervous being at a bar among strangers, the actress pushes him to loosen up a little and enjoy. The two perform an impromptu skit with each other, which makes Ranbir a little relaxed. Meanwhile, as a teenager, watching the whole scene made me wish to have the same encounter with a boy at a nightclub when I’ll grow up, however, it hasn’t happened till now.
And like me most of the twenty-something aged people might have some or the other wish when they can go to a place and find someone and appear as cool as the actors can on the silver screens.
Verdict:
It’s as difficult as fancy it looks. And Twenty Something has made it seen as relatable as it could in a seven-minute-long short film that begins and ends at a nightclub. The short film that has been made by the talented crew of Pixar Studious during their quarantine amidst of COVID-19 pandemic, stands out as a perfect chapter to begin the course of adulthood. The Aphton Corbin helmed short ought to be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
