Trust Issues Season 2 review: Shivam ‘Swagger’ Sharma’s polyamorous relationships lack flavour and originality

At best, Trust Issues Season 2 can be lauded for bringing a hush-hush subject to the forefront. Everything else about the show evokes major trust issues in me.

STORY: Quick to fall in love, Shivam Sharma’s heart is shredded to pieces when a chirpy female friend breaks it at the peak of puberty. When it comes to women though, Shivam has only one weakness—wear a good perfume, and you have his heart in the palm of your hands. Trust Issues Season 2 tries to be a lot of things all at once, fails epically at everything. 

REVIEW: You may hate to admit it but for some, myself included, there’s something inexplicably charming about hopeless romantics—take Dhanush’s Kundan from Raanjhanaa, for instance—whose borderline obsessive antics and delusional notions of love evoke childlike glee in us. You fall for the idea behind the person’s understanding of love. Swagger Sharma, as the lead actor is fondly called, attempts to capture that college boy-ish charm, coupled with grand gestures of love, that miss the mark by a mile. Or even more.

After nursing his first massive heartbreak for an unbelievable amount of time, Shivam is bowled over by two stunning women. Soon enough, he realises he loves them both as well as a third one. Now, on paper, Trust Issues Season 2 has all the makings of an insightful show on the dynamics between people living the polyamorous lifestyle but 30 minutes into it and you already see what the story lacks: originality and finesse.

In modern times, people are more open and honest about their sexuality and sexual preferences, and while Trust Issues Season 2 is free of judgments (and tries to debunk a few myths sticking to this allegedly uncoventional idea of romance), it never makes even the bare minimum effort at answering complex questions pertaining to polyamory.

Trust Issues Season 2, of course, is heavily depended on Shivam Sharma and the one-liners he usually pulls with ease. Here, unfortunately, the feeble script is hard to look past: the humour feels dated, and the actors have overacted to the point of them coming off as caricatur-ish.
