Tillu Square Review: Siddhu Jonnalaggada's hilarious act and Anupama Parameswaran's shocking new transformation take the cake.
Tillu Square
After getting cheated by Radhika (Neha Sshetty) in the first part, Tillu (Siddhu Jonnalagadda) is a changed man and runs an event management company named Tillu Events. But his weakness for beautiful girls never dies. One fine day, he meets Lilly (Anupama Parameswaran) and ends up having a one-night stand with her. A month later, Lilly comes back, stating she is pregnant and wants to marry Tillu. In all this, there is a catch, as Lilly has gone to Tillu with a mission. What is that mission? And how Tillu comes out of it is the basic story of the film.
With DJ Tillu, the character Tillu amassed a cult following in Telugu cinema. So, naturally, when the sequel was announced, the expectations were high and Siddhu Jonnalagadda had to deliver. Not only does Tillu Square deliver but it is a notch higher than the first part.
The second half of DJ Tillu looked forced and had many logical issues. So, the main lead and writer, Siddhu Jonnalagadda, has made sure that the sequel will have proper thrills, solid twists, and great romance. All this has been balanced in proper doses. The character of Tillu is known for his one-liners and there are plenty in the sequel. Each dialogue Siddhu speaks has some punch or another.
Siddhu himself has penned the script and his writing is what takes the cake in Tillu Square. The way the story is linked to the first part has proper justification and does not look forced. The twists that Anupama Parameswaran's character brings get thunderous applause in theatres. Tillu Square is a kind of film that one has to watch in theatres. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments that you will enjoy a lot.
Siddhu Jonnalagadda plays to the gallery and adds good fun in the second half. There is no denying the fact that Siddhu Jonnalagadda is a superstar in the making. As a writer-actor, he is a lethal weapon and can create wonders. Be it his looks, body language, or dialogue delivery, he has given fans of the franchise what they expect from Tillu Square. His conversations with Anuapama Parameswaran and his parents have been executed superbly in the film.
Be it the surprise entry of a heroine or the way the character of Tillu gets fooled time and again by the ladies he loves, it is showcased funnily. The nostalgia factor from the first part is also used quite cleverly in the sequel. The best part of the film is the crisp runtime. One hardly gets time to notice the flaws in the film and even if they start appearing, superb songs and romance cover it up.
Anupama Parameswaran is a surprise package for the film. What is shown in the promos is just a sample and Anupama has much more to showcase in the film. Be it her bold, glamorous avatar, the twists that she brings with her unpredictable character will be loved by the audience. Tillu Square will surely be a turning point in her career and there is no denying the fact.
The production values are top notch and the camera work is also neat. The dialogues and the usage of brand names and slang words the youth use have been induced so cleverly in the film. Vimal Krishna directed DJ Tillu but the sequel is handled by Mallik Ram. He has played it safe and narrated what is artistically penned by Siddhu Jonnalagadda.
Tillu Square has released without any competition and will surely rake in big numbers at the box office. It has been quite some time since we have seen a fun-filled sequel and Tillu Square lives up to all the hype and is better than the first part. The way it provides non-stop laughs will be loved by the youth, in particular.
On the whole, Tillu Square lives up to the hype and has the right dose of comedy, twists, and romance. The one-liners, Siddhu Jonnalagadda's stand-out act, and Anuapam Parameswaran's shocking new avatar are the icing on the cake and will make this film a blockbuster at the box office. Recommended.
