Tholvi F.C. review: George Kora's film stands out for its characters' unwavering resolve despite a dearth of emotional nuance

Tholvi F.C. Story: The movie follows the tale of a dysfunctional family that aspires to achieve their goals and does not back down from difficult situations. In spite of their financial struggles and internal turmoil, the family finds joy in the little things in life. The main plot of the film revolves around their determination to succeed despite the obstacles in their way.

Tholvi F.C. Review: Tholvi F.C. by George Kora avoids delving into intricate family dynamics or intense feelings. Instead, it passes through a middle-class family that is okay with taking chances or failing to go after their goals.

Kuruvila wants to use cryptocurrency and other fast money-making schemes to make quick money, but his wife, Shoshamma, wants to write crime thriller novels. Their sons, Oommen and Thambi, are also pursuing their own interests; the former wants to establish an entrepreneurial venture named Chai Nation, while the latter wants to see his kids' football team, Thambi FC, win a game.

But things are not always that simple for them, and dreams sometimes fail to come true the way one hopes. Meanwhile, one can always pursue their passion in another way.

The makers have included an array of topics, including changing family dynamics and gender stereotypes, in this comedy drama. There are several poignant moments in Tholvi F.C., such as when Meenakshi Raveendran's character Maryam struggles to create an identity for herself and Sharaf U Dheen's character Oommen perseveres in the face of insults and financial hardship.

The way each character changes over the course of the movie, as does their bond, is an appealing element. They continue to be happy with the little things and to watch out for their dear and near ones in spite of numerous hurdles.

Nevertheless, there is not much in the movie to keep audiences intrigued for the majority of the runtime. Tholvi F.C. is less appealing because it also avoids going too far into the emotional aspect most of the time. The comical elements do not have the same charm as the light-hearted moments in films such as Rojin Thomas’s Home or Nithish Sahadev’s Falimy.

Though the performances might not be particularly remarkable or convincing most of the time, the family audience may enjoy the film as a whole.

Tholvi F.C. Verdict: It is worth seeing the comedy drama once, but begin it with no expectations. Even though it does not arouse strong emotions in viewers, the film is still a good choice to watch this weekend because of its simple plot.
