The Ultimatum - Marry Or Move On Review: A mix-and-match of Love Is Blind and other dating reality shows

While you begin watching The Ultimatum thinking 'Okay, this could be something', you end up stating 'Oh, just another dating reality show? Spare me the drama!'

Story:

Various couples join The Ultimatum since one partner wants marriage and the other is not quite there yet. On this show, you meet and live with other people you bond with, to see where you relationship goes.

Review:

As soon as The Ultimatum begins, you see the couples face the same situation - whether they want to take the plunge or move on. It is a stage every person in love come across and thus, that is a strong factor that makes the show desirable. However, the concept is where this reality show ends. The complications that come with the process is done-and-dusted and offers nothing new or real.

Coming from the makers of Love Is Blind aka Nick and Vanessa Laschey, you can expect drama and jealousy 100%. This time, the drama doesn't involve only the women, which is a refreshing change.

Here, couples who are sure they want to marry each other, get an opportunity to meet someone else and connect with them, sometimes at a level that they couldn't with their original partner. The concept is not very different from Love Is Blind since these couples go out and explore a new person and get so serious (or not) that marriage is on the cards almost immediately.

There is a constant struggle that keeps playing - whether putting an ultimatum on your partner is the smart choice. Many suffer and very few shine.

One couple literally lives in the fantasy world, which will also take you back to the last season of Love Is Blind (Barnett and Amber). You see this couple playing husband and wife even before they are married. The girl, Rae, even asks how Mrs. Cunningham.

The series is quite feel-good, actually. You experience the journey of the new couples who actually connect way better than with their original partners and it all just appears to be straight out of a dream.

The story from there goes around in circles and honestly, there are many episodes where I lost interest and preferred staring at the wall because that has more colour than this predictable-till-you-yawn show. The additional sad music provides nothing new but the drama we have outgrown.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that the show takes a page out of The Kardashians, considering just how much drama and complexities are there in relationships that need to be simplified. Honestly, we see no reason to watch this reality show, which is a mix of the many we have seen in the past few years. After a point, you don't even see real emotions and know that a few of these people are wannabe actors and that is exactly where the concept of 'reality' shows end.

Verdict:

Your life could either be sad or it could be watching/being on The Ultimatum sad. You choose which one would you prefer.

Honestly, only if you Nick and Vanessa Laschey's fans and want more suspense, go watch Love Is Blind's initial episodes. That will at least give you some drama worth watching.
